Sysco LABS
Sysco is the world's largest food vendor. Sysco Shop is the company's eCommerce platform. With food costs rising, restaurants need a better way to keep up with what food they have on hand.
Mindbody
When the pandemic hit, fitness studios needed to ensure customers that their workout spaces were safe.
Inventory
Most restaurants nowadays take inventory by hand with a clipboard. They have to manually locate the food item, write in the type of the item, how many they have on, and then go into their computer to key in how many they need to order.
Current State
Our current app is out of date, inflexible and hard to understand. Food costs aren't simplified and there are too many options.Oh, and we also don't even have access to it to update it.
Future State
We have the items you've ordered from us, all you need to do is input how many you have left and we automatically order to the amount you set per week.
Our north start is Food Costs
(Initial Inventory + Purchases - Ending Inventory) / Food Sales = Food Costs?!
Simplifying Food Costs
After a contextual inquiry + many conversations with Subject Matter Experts we learned that chefs are busy, and many aren't mathematicians, so why are we showing food costs in such a technical way?Setting your budget for the week is easy to do and you always know where you stand.
Pick-a-spot
After 2020, Mindbody's UX Research team was busy figuring out how to make customer's feel comfortable in their workout classes in a post pandemic world. We learned that knowledge of the space and flexibility was a crucial factor for clients.
Current State
Mindbody had acquired a company meeting a similar need but it was a little out of date and wouldn't work with our class system.
Current State continued: Client Facing
My initial UX Audit determined there was no visual structure, information architecture was cluttered, equipment type had its own tab (which I assume was hard to find) and group information was cluttered.
Current State continued: Business side
Business side was out of date, buried in settings and ultimately done by the business only.
Initial Testing - Business Mode
My first attempt at this complicated task was to create a wizard, of course! Silly me.It tested well, but there were just too many tasks involved.
Drag 'n' Drop
Next, I embraced the canvas concept everything started coming together. Dragging an equipment type was fun and a convention on the web.
Groups
If you add a different equipment type we automatically create a new group for you in the system and
Client Mode
After a client chooses to sign up for a class, they are automatically taken to our client facing spot picker.

Flexibility is key.
